Introduction

The Draconian Redemption loot system is based heavily on the EPGP system by evlogimenos. It was written with a focus on fairness and predictability. While some parts of it are necessarily complex, an effort has been made to keep the rules as understandable as possible. The important points and short version of the loot system are:

Distributing Loot

When an epic item drops and the master looter of the raid calls for interest, everyone who wants the item expresses interest in raid chat. When calling interest, you should clearly specify which spec the item is for, or if you want the item just to play with or wear around town (this is preferred over sharding). You can also optionally specify how interested you are, to help people who may only want the item if nobody else wants it more. Examples would be "interest" (just saying "interest" implies main spec), "main spec", "off spec", "I'll take it for my healing set", "VERY interested!", or "interest if nobody else wants it". Anyone who calls interest can take it back and pass if they'd rather someone else who spoke up have it. If everyone who called interest originally passes, you're all way too nice, and somebody's going to have to take the darn thing.

When more than one member is interested, where the loot goes is determined by one of five things. More detail on each is provided in the next sections, but to summarize, in order of importance:

  1. What spec the item is for. Main spec comes first.
  2. The guild ranks of the people interested. In particular, weapons, trinkets, and tier items go to the main specs of full-time raiders first. Note that non-members who have applied and been accepted are given the same ranks as guild members.
  3. For weapons, whether the item is a "primary weapon". For example, bows go to hunters first, axes go to melee first.
  4. If the item has stats on it that are completely useless. For example, gear with hit rating goes to DPS casters before healers. It's assumed that there's a better upgrade elsewhere in the instance for the healer.
  5. For main spec items, the person's Priority score (EP/GP). More details on EP and GP in the next section.
  6. If there's a tie in Priority scores, a random 100 roll is used.

Only main spec items cost GP, and GP costs are applied to the person's Priority score immediately after receiving the item. Bind on Equip items are handled the same as Bind on Pickup items, except that they can only be claimed for main spec. If they aren't claimed in the raid they dropped for, they're put into the raid tab of the guild bank. All guild members then have a one week window to call interest in the item by mailing the person administrating the guild bank. Multiple claims within that week are handled with the same system as distributing loot in raids. If no claims are made within a week, the item will go to the first person who claims it.

Spec Priorities

  1. Main spec upgrades always has the highest priority.
  2. After main spec, approved secondary specs have priority. Secondary specs are other specs (or in some cases characters) that are not a player's main, but are used relatively heavily by the raid. Examples would be a healing priest who commonly respecs to shadow when the raid needs DPS, or a feral DPS druid who tanks some raids. Approved main and secondary specs are listed in the raiding roster.
  3. Third spec priority is for off specs. Anyone can claim this priority for any of their specs. Alts also claim items for their main spec at this priority.
  4. Fourth priority is for toys and cosmetic items. Taking an item just to have it is preferred over disenchanting or vendoring an item, we don't expect to have a serious shortage of abyss crystals, so feel free to save something from the disenchanter if you like the look of it. Items with no raid use that are entirely for fun, such as mounts and toy trinkets, are always handled at this priority.

Guild Ranks

Weapon Priorities

Each class/spec has a type of weapon that they consider their primary weapon type. These are prioritized over weapons that are only used for the stats, ignoring the DPS component. The full table of who gets priority on what weapon type is below.

Class/Spec Primary Weapon
Death Knight Melee Weapon
Druid (Balance) Caster Weapon
Druid (Feral) Melee Weapon
Druid (Restoration) Caster Weapon
Hunter Ranged Weapon
Mage Caster Weapon
Paladin (Holy) Caster Weapon
Paladin (Protection) Melee Weapon
Paladin (Retribution) Melee Weapon
Priest Caster Weapon
Rogue Melee Weapon
Shaman (Elemental) Caster Weapon
Shaman (Enhancement) Melee Weapon
Shaman (Restoration) Caster Weapon
Warlock Caster Weapon
Warrior Melee Weapon

Stats-based Priorites

Stats-based priority is fairly self-explanitory. If an item has a stat that is completely wasted on one of the people calling interest, they will not be considered to have as high a priority on the item, because it is assumed that there is another similar item elsewhere in the instance that has its full item budget dedicated to useful stats for that person. This only applies to stats that are utterly useless in the majority of situations (like hit for healers or defense for mages), it does not change the priority for stats that are just not very good (like haste or armor penetration for many classes).

EP/GP Priority Score

On main spec items, the item is given based on who has the highest Priority score, which is their Effort Points divided by their Gear Points. Details on how each score is accumulated are below. Items at priorities other than main spec skip this step and go right to the random roll, since only main spec items count toward Gear Points.

Random Roll

In the case of Priority ties and non-main spec items, a random roll out of 100 is used to determine who gets the item. Random rolls are also used before other priorities if someone who is below the Effort Point minimum has main spec interest (people below the EP minimum would generally be guests or very new members). If a person below minimum EP wins the roll, they get the item. If someone who meets the EP minimum wins, priority is handled through the normal system. A maximum of two main spec items per raiding week can be taken by people below the minimum EP.

Other Considerations

Any considerations other than the ones listed above are completely at the discretion of the people interested in the items. Other things to consider when you're deciding whether to take an item or pass it, generally common sense stuff:

Officers reserve the right to make a decision that overrides the normal loot system in extreme cases. Exercising that right would represent a major failure in the loot system, however, and would have to be done by the unanimous vote of all officers present. A careful review of the incident and how the loot system failed would be conducted by all officers as soon as possible after the raid.

Effort Points (EP)

The first part of the EPGP system, Effort Points, are points earned by doing things for the guild, both in raids and outside of them. They're equivalent to the DKP used in many other systems, except that they aren't actually spent, only balanced against GP. Both EP and GP decay by 15% at the end of every raid week. Since they decay at the same rate, decay does not affect the Priority score. The minimum EP for an active member is currently 2000 points, people below that level will use random rolls to claim items in raids as explained above, and will not be able to claim Bind on Equip items out of the guild bank unless they are more than a week old (nobody claimed them in the first week).

EP in Raids

Effort Points gained during raids are added to the person's score immediately after each raid. A full list of EP rewards given in raids is in the table below.

Boss first kill +500
Boss second kill +300
Boss farming kill +100
Per full hour attempting first/second kill +300
Signed up and ready to raid at start time +50
Not signed up to raid, but subbed in later +50
Present at the end of a raid +50
Alted for a raid, but remained available +50

Note that of the four +50 bonuses, someone will get a maximum of +100. This is the normal attendance bonus for raids. There is no penalty for arriving late to or leaving early from a raid you signed up for if you have a good reason (and this is assumed), but the associated +50 EP reward isn't given either. The same goes for missing a raid entirely, there's no penalty if you have a good reason (again, that's assumed), you just won't get any points for it.

EP Outside of Raids

Outside of raids, EP can be gained by donating gold or useful items/materials to the guild bank. Item and gold donations are worth 1 EP per 1 gold value. If no gold value is already established for an item, the listed Auction House value on Wowhead can be used. To claim an EP award for a donation you make, send an in game mail to the person administrating the guild bank (currently Xaraynia).

These points are added to each person's EP scores at the end of each raiding week (the Tuesday reset), after decay is calculated (they won't decay until the next week). The maximum amount that can be gained this way is 100EP per week.

Gear Points (GP)

The second part of the EPGP system, Gear Points, are points accumulated by getting things from the guild. Getting GP is like to spending DKP in other systems. Both EP and GP decay by 15% at the end of every raid week. GP is accumulated whenever an epic item is claimed for main spec, and is applied immediately to the person's current GP score and Priority.

The formula for the GP value of an item is necessarily complicated. We use the formula from the standard EPGP rules:
0.483 x 2(ilvl/26 + (rarity - 4)) x slot mod

Item Level

The ilvl value is the item level of the piece of loot, not the level required to equip it. Examples of ilvl values by where they'd drop:

Heroics 200
Tier 7 10-man Normal Bosses 200
Tier 7 10-man End Bosses 213
Tier 7 25-man Normal Bosses 213
Tier 7 25-man End Bosses 226
Tier 8 10-man Normal Modes 219
Tier 8 10-man Hard Modes 226
Tier 8 25-man Normal Modes 226
Tier 8 25-man Hard Modes 232
Tier 9 10-man Normal Modes 232
Tier 9 10-man Hard Modes 245
Tier 9 25-man Normal Modes 245
Tier 9 25-man Hard Modes 258

Rarity

Only epic and legendary items are normally applied to GP scores, but the other values are provided for reference.

Uncommon 2
Rare 3
Epic 4
Legendary 5

Slot (Body)

Items are weighted differently depending on what slot they go in, because different slots have higher or lower item budgets. The value multiplier of most slots is constant.

Head 1.00
Chest 1.00
Legs 1.00
Shoulders 0.75
Hands 0.75
Waist 0.75
Feet 0.75
Trinket 0.75
Wrist 0.50
Neck 0.50
Back 0.50
Finger 0.50

Slot (Weapon)

The three weapon slots (main hand, off hand, and ranged) are handled differently because of the vastly different ways each class and spec uses the slots. As noted in the priority section above, some classes use one slot for its DPS value, some only use it for the stats. An effort has been made with the EPGP system to make items only used for the stats cost less (for example, a hunter's one handed melee weapon is worth little more than a ring or necklace, while it's one of the major contributors of a rogue's DPS). The weightings Draconian Redemption uses are the same, with the exception that there is no distinction between items used in the main hand and the off hand (the distinction between two handed weapons and one handed weapons remains), because of the added complexity of trying to figure out which hand the person will wield it in, and the possibility that they might use it for their other hand later, depending on their class.

Class Main Hand Offhand/Shield Ranged/Relic
Tanks
Warrior 0.5 1.5 0.5
Paladin 0.5 1.5 0.5
Death Knight (2H) 2.0 - 0.5
Death Knight (DW) 1.0 1.0 0.5
Druid 2.0 - 0.5
DPS and Healing
2H Melee 2.0 - 0.5
DW 1H Melee 1.0 1.0 0.5
DW 2H Melee 1.5 1.5 0.5
2H Hunter 1.0 - 1.5
DW Hunter 0.5 0.5 1.5
2H Caster 2.0 - 0.5
1H Caster 1.5 0.5 0.5

Non-DKP Raids

Some raids, generally raids where there will be very little competition for loot, are not run under the EPGP system. They use the first three priorities as usual, but skip EPGP and go right to random rolls if two people have the same priority. Players are limited to two main spec epic items per raid on these runs, unless no other players have main spec interest on the item. No EP is earned for non-DKP raids, and no GP is accumulated for getting items in the raid, or Bind on Equip items from that raid from the guild bank. Current non-DKP raids:
